iiiMemo(ayayay-mĕm'ə)
Ok, I know it´s no justification (since I had established that I would write an entry to my blog at least every week). But hey, I’m trying.
Well, they day after I did my previous post on how to create a blog, when I was in the O´Hare airport, I turned on my mac to face a big disappointment.
There was a vertical black bar across my macbook screen. It divided the screen by half. And the bar was not thin, I guess it would be about 2 inches.
I restarted, rebooted, took the battery out, played with the brightness controls, squeezed, tapped, danced to Tlaloc, sprayed holy water, and tried every possible solution with the hope that, as magically as the bar appeared, disappeared.
Well, no luck. I asked my friend Google about similar problems and I was actually surprised with how little information about this problem there is on the net, and I would think that is not that uncommon. Anyway, it seems that sometimes a connection in the middle of the screen gets loose and causes the black bar.
Well, anyway, as soon as I landed in San Diego, I went to Apple Store in fashion Valley. They took a look at it and gave the grim diagnosis: would have to be sent to service.
“5 to 7 days????”, I cried. I haven’t been separated that long from my macbook since... well... since I bought it in 2007! Sobbing, I said farewell, not before making a last backup and giving her the holy oils.
One week later, fortunately, it had resuscitated. The shining new screen made her look like new, the keyboard cover was also replaced because of the cracking issue with the macs, and apparently some tune up had been done in the software as well.
So, if you have a similar problem, I only can suggest to take it to an Apple store.
How much did I pay? $0.00.
Yup, apple care is a God send. I cannot recommend it strongly enough.
Particularly because I have no doubt that I would’ve paid $400 for this kind of service without warranty.
Anyway, I’m back. With my mac.

Google search: “macbook screen black vertical bar”.
Useful results: none.
This is how it looked when I turned on my computer. A vertical black bar, about 2 inches in width, across half of the screen.
This is how it looked after 10 minutes of being turned on. The black bar was replaced by a bar with the color of the last pixel on the right.
